Summer is here, and nothing says Independence Day like the spectacular firework show in Redmond. But while most people find fireworks colorfully entertaining, our beloved canine and feline friends may view them entirely differently.

Some experts say that the 4th of July is perhaps one of the scariest nights of the year for our dogs and cats. Did you know July 5th is the busiest day for animal shelters from frightened dogs and cats that are spooked from the fireworks? So how can we help keep our pets calm and relaxed during fireworks? The good news is, there are solutions! 

If your pet struggles during the firework show, the best thing you can do is address it with preparation and strategy. Below are six tips to keep your canine and feline friends safe and calm this firework season.

  1. Steer clear from all fireworks and stay home, making sure all doors and windows are closed.
  2. Try drowning out the noise of fireworks with soothing music or turn on the tv. Turning on the fans in your home can also help drown out some of the noise.
  3. Exercise your dog and cat before the activities start.
  4. Make sure their tags and ID are up to date with your latest information (don't forget we have a tag engraving machine!) and have recent photos of them ready just in case.
